West Ham have “a verbal agreement” with Ajax striker Brian Brobbey on personal terms, according to reports.
A source has told website Africafoot that the Netherlands international and the Hammers have found common ground on his salary, but the transfer fee with Ajax is still being negotiated:
“Everything is settled between Brian Brobbey and West Ham after negotiations on personal terms. A verbal agreement has been reached: in the event of a transfer, he will receive a weekly salary of €119,000 (£100,000).”
“All that remains is to reach an agreement with Ajax in the coming days.”
Van der Vaart believes Brobbey will be a “sensation” if he makes the switch to London Stadium
After scoring just 3 times in all competitions this season, many have questioned whether West Ham are doing the right thing by pursuing the forward (who has also been linked with Tottenham, Everton and Manchester United).
However, speaking last week, former Spurs midfielder Rafael van der Vaart said that he can see Brobbey thriving in the Premier League:
“If someone pays that amount (£25-30m) and he can go to West Ham, then I would let him go immediately. But I’ll tell you, if he goes there, he will be a sensation. Trust me, 100 per cent.”
West Ham are considering multiple options
In addition to Brobbey, the club have been heavily linked with a bid for Brighton’s Evan Ferguson. The Republic of Ireland international is expected to leave the Amex on loan or on a permanent basis before the transfer window shuts on Monday night.
A bid for PSV Eindhoven’t Ricardo Pepi has also reportedly been lodged. The American international has scored 18 goals in all competitions this season; far more than Brobbey who plays in the same league.
However, it is believed that the Irons’ offer of around €25m (£21m) was rejected and they are not expected to return with a second proposal.
