West Ham Are Still Concerned There “Could Be A Hijack from Arsenal” Despite Player Undergoing Medical

West Ham have concerns that a London rival may snatch Brighton’s Evan Ferguson away from them, according to The Guardian‘s Jacob Steinberg.

Writing on his X account, the journalist said that there is some nervousness that there “could be a hijack from Arsenal.”

Ferguson is set to undergo a medical today (Sunday 2nd February) with the Hammers expected to snap him up on loan for the rest of the season.

Graham Potter’s side are said to be paying the Irishman’s wages in full and no purchase clause has been included in the agreement.

No option to buy may disappoint some West Ham supporters

While fans will be happy that the club have finally made a move to secure the services of a striker, the fact that there is no way to sign Ferguson on a permanent basis will irritate some.

The Republic of Ireland international was reportedly available for £40m this month but, if he performs well during his time at the London Stadium, Brighton are likely to jack up the price.

Furthermore, other teams including Arsenal, Chelsea and others will have another chance to buy them, with West Ham not getting any preferential treatment.

Will Ferguson be the only signing before deadline day?

The Irons are keen on doing a deal with Celtic for youngster Daniel Cummings but his club are believed to be very unhappy with how negotiations have been conducted so that one could get complicated.

There is also interest in Lorient’s Eli Junior Kroupi but there is stiff competition from Chelsea and Bournemouth. The former are believed to be willing to pay up to £30m for the teenager, although they can’t give him guarantees of playing in the Premier League, unlike West Ham.
