West Ham had scouts in the stands to watch Alexander Sorloth play for Norway against Slovenia last week, according to The Sunday People (via West Ham Zone).
There has been recent speculation about the Hammers making an approach for the 28-year-old, who they also considered signing in the summer transfer window.
Sorloth did end up joining Atletico Madrid for £29m back in August, but he has found life tough at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, and he is reportedly weighing up a possible exit already.
With that in mind, the Irons seem to be keeping close tabs on his performances ahead of a potential offer in the New Year.
How has Sorloth performed during the international break?
Observers would have been very impressed with the former Crystal Palace player’s display during the 3-0 win over Slovenia. He scored the second goal and provided the assist for Norway’s third.
On Sunday night, Sorloth got on the scoresheet once again. He was the only one to come out with any credit as his country were thrashed 5-1 by Austria.
The forward’s form for Norway is a stark contrast to his displays at club level, where he has managed just 1 goal in 11 appearances for Atletico.
Why are West Ham in the market for another striker?
Head coach Julen Lopetegui does have three strikers in the first-team squad. However, Niclas Fullkrug has been sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury for the best part of a month.
If the German international continues to struggle with the issue, Lopetegui will have to rely on Michail Antonio and Danny Ings, who have scored just two goals between them so far this campaign.
Sorloth may prove too costly to sign on a permanent basis but, if Atletico do allow him to leave on loan, he could be a potential option to consider.
