Ex-Arsenal striker Alan Smith says West Ham made a “really, really good” decision when they signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer.
The Hammers paid £15m to bring in the right-back from Manchester United and, speaking to Casinoapps.com, Smith said that the defender, along with Ilkay Gundogan and Federico Chiesa, are his picks for the best additions during the last transfer window:
“Gundogan is a player that you can depend on. You know exactly what you are going to get from him. For City’s rivals and challengers, I think Gundogan’s signing was a bit of depressing news.”
“Federico Chiesa going to Liverpool for £12m will be a great piece of business if he can stay fit. If they can get the player that shone at the European Championships in 2021, then that looks like being a cracking bargain for them. He’s a highly experienced player domestically and internationally. That could be a very cute deal if it all goes well.”
“I did commentary at West Ham the other day, they’ve made a lot of good signings. Aaron Wan-Bissaka looks like he’s going to enjoy his time there. That looks like a really, really good signing as well.”
Wan-Bissaka has made a strong start
After making an impact off the bench against Crystal Palace during the 2-0 win last month, the 26-year-old followed it up with two further good performances.
Wan-Bissaka was many people’s Player of the Match on his first start versus Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup, and he gave a good account of himself during the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City just before the international break.
West Ham fans will be hoping other summer signings can follow the fullback’s lead
It’s fair to say that Jean-Clair Todibo, Niclas Fullkrug and Crysencio Summerville haven’t exactly hit the ground running since arriving at the London Stadium.
Others, such as Max Kilman and Guido Rodriguez, have performed better but, if Julen Lopetegui’s side are to climb the table over the coming weeks and months, all of them will have to pull their weight.
