West Ham will make their “first bid” for Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka “this week”, according to SamC.

The journalist, who works for the United Stand And That’s Football!, claims sources have told him that the Hammers will formalise their interest in the defender:

Wan-Bissaka has been confirmed as a target for Julen Lopetegui’s side by multiple reports but West Ham have also been considering offers for other right-backs.

How Wan-Bissaka emerged as a top target

The 26-year-old has been linked on and off with a transfer to the London Stadium over the past couple of years. However, many thought that the club’s pursuit of the player would end following the departure of manager David Moyes.

That doesn’t appear to be the case based on these latest claims. The decision to reignite their interest centres around the departure of Ben Johnson to Ipswich Town.

West Ham were hoping to keep the fullback but his transfer to Portman Road means there is a gap to fill in the right-hand side of defence. Both Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters and Torino’s Raoul Bellanova have been considered as alternatives but Wan-Bissaka is seemingly deemed the most economical option.

How much will West Ham pay for the United defender?

Wan-Bissaka has less than a year left on his contract at Old Trafford and that will likely influence how much the Irons are willing to spend on the player.

The fact that United haven’t lined up a replacement does suggest any deal won’t be straightforward and it’s expected that West Ham’s first offer will be rejected. It’s definitely a transfer story to keep an eye on over the coming days.
