West Ham Are ‘Willing To Pay A High Price’ For Emerson Replacement But Jose Mourinho Has Other Ideas

West Ham remain determined to land Fenerbahce defender Jayden Oosterwolde, according to Fanatik.

The Turkish publication claims that the Hammers have not given up on signing the Dutchman, who was also a target during the summer transfer window.

It is believed that Oosterwolde has been eyed as potential competition for Emerson Palmieri, with head coach Julen Lopetegui looking for a more “dynamic” option on the left-hand side of defence.

Fanatik report that the London club are “willing to pay a high price” for the player, who can play both as a left-back and centre-back.

West Ham could kill two birds with one stone

The fact that Oosterwolde can also play in the middle of the defence would solve another problem for Lopetegui. The club are currently light on centre-backs, with Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Konstantinos Mavropanos the only senior options at the manager’s disposal.

A trial was handed to ex-Sheffield United player John Egan but the Republic of Ireland international didn’t do enough to earn himself a contract. There was interest in Joel Matip too but the former Liverpool defender has recently announced his retirement from football.

Recruiting Oosterwolde would, therefore, help reinforce the Irons’ first-team squad in two different positions.

Fenerbahce won’t let Oosterwolde leave without a fight

Former Manchester United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is now in charge of the Turkish side, and he is reportedly a big fan of the defender.

That will undoubtedly complicate negotiations, with the Yellow Canaries likely to hold out for a sizeable sum if they do choose to sell Oosterwolde in the next transfer window.

Considering West Ham are believed to have limited resources after splashing the cash in the summer, this may not be a realistic transfer.
