A ‘big chance’ is defined by Opta as being a one-on-one opportunity or a shot that is at close range, with a clear path to goal, with little to no pressure from defenders.

Missing a big chance doesn’t necessarily mean that the forward is shooting. They could potentially pass to a teammate rather than take the shot.
