‘I’m Really Happy For Him’ Julen Lopetegui Praises West Ham Star Following 1-1 Fulham Draw

West Ham United were spared the ignominy of defeat last time out by an unlikely savior – none other than Danny Ings, who popped up late on to give the Irons a 1-1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The Hammers were trailing for most of the game, as ex-Wolves striker Raul Jimenez drew first blood in the 24th minute. The Cottagers dictated most of the action, but could not put West Ham to bed – which proved to be their undoing late on.

It gave Julen Lopetegui somewhat of a buffer – West Ham have had a slow start to the season, with one win, one draw and two defeats. The former Real Madrid boss will be hoping this positive result can be built upon – and he had plenty of nice things about the player who rescued a point for his team.

What did West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui have to say about Danny Ings following his last minute equaliser?

Speaking after the Hammers’ game against Fulham at the weekend, Lopetegui said [via WHUFC.com]: “He [Danny Ings] is always agile in those kinds of actions, and he took his chance very well.

“I’m really happy for him, because he hasn’t played much up until now, but he is always ready to go. He is a really good example to all of his teammates, and it’s great to see his work pay off.

“As a player, it can be hard when you don’t know when the coach is going to call you. The important thing is to try and always be ready, because you are going to be needed at some point.

“Scoring in the last minute today is important, because he’s shown everyone that you have to believe until the end. Even though there were things we could do better today, we kept going and we got something out of the game.”
