‘Bring Him Home. Underrated’ ‘A Poor Defender At Premier League Level’ Fans Discuss West Ham Loanee’s Future

West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer has been a regular starter since joining Monaco on loan in January.

The German international played an important role in helping the Ligue One side secure Champions League qualification with a 2-0 win over Montpellier at the weekend.

When asked if they would be keen on Kehrer returning to the London Stadium this summer, West Ham fans on X were split on whether it is a good idea:

Monaco do have an option to buy Kehrer

Supporters should be aware that there is a purchase clause in the 27-year-old’s loan agreement which Monaco can choose to trigger.

Considering that Kehrer has been a regular starter, and the fact that the club has secured additional revenue through their involvement in the Champions League, it’s more than likely that the player will stay in France beyond this summer.

West Ham need reinforcements in defence

Despite Kehrer’s ability to play right across the back four, manager David Moyes used him sparingly in the first half of the season, handing him just 4 starts in all competitions. He was mostly an unused substitute for league matches.

Even so, his departure will mean there is an even greater incentive to strengthen the backline, especially with the futures of Angelo Ogbonna, captain Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd and Vladimir Coufal also up in the air.

Technical director Tim Steidten could be tasked with revamping the whole defence if all of these players leave the Hammers over the coming weeks.
