Yarmolenko ‘really happy’ with first few weeks at West Ham

New West Ham United man Andriy Yarmolenko says he is ‘really happy’ with his first few weeks at the club and looks forward to a strong season ahead.

The Ukraine international joined the Hammers earlier this month in a £16 million deal from Borussia Dortmund, and has impressed the fans with his promising displays in pre-season so far.

After starring against both Wycombe Wanderers and Preston North End, Yarmolenko has revealed how if enjoying life thus far as a Hammer, and especially under manager Manuel Pellegrini.

“I am enjoying being part of this squad,” he confirmed. “We have many good players and the coach wants us to play football and not long balls and play attacking football, which I like.

“I am smiling because I am happy and I am always happy when I am playing football. Now I am really happy! I must continue to train hard and I will be ready for the start of the season.”

Yarmolenko endured a challenging season with Dortmund last term, where he did not feature as regularly as he would have hoped, making only 13 starts in the Bundesliga.

The Ukrainian will hope that changes next season with West Ham, and says he cannot wait to get back to his best and show the Claret and Blue army just what he can do.

“I try to play well and I am feeling better with every game I play, but I need time to reach my best level, of course,” he told whufc.com.

“With every game, I feel better about my relationship with my teammates on the pitch, but we must continue to work hard to get the best possible understanding.

“We are starting to find more combinations, but this is just the start. After another month of training and playing together, I am sure we will play better.”
