The 5 Worst Goalkeepers In The Premier League This Season (Based On Save %) – UPDATED

Earlier this season, we profiled the worst 5 goalkeepers in the Premier League according to their save percentage.

In today’s post, we will be updating this list as we pass the halfway mark in the season.

Only one keeper remains from our previous top 5 but, ironically, despite Arsenal swapping their no.1, they still have a player mentioned.

Press the next page as we go through the worst-performing top-flight goalkeepers (based on data from FBREF).

5) Wes Foderingham (Sheffield United) – 64.4%

The Blades no.1 has had a pretty thankless task this season with his team having the leakiest defence in the Premier League.

However, Foderingham hasn’t helped matters. While he has made some very good saves, there have been a fair few others he should have kept out as well.

Manager Chris Wilder has problems to fix across the pitch so replacing the keeper won’t be one of his priorities for the January transfer window.

If Sheffield United are to pull off a miracle and stay up, though, Foderingham will have to improve on his displays in the first half of the campaign.

4) Sam Johnstone (Crystal Palace) – 63.6%

The England international has actually been praised for some of his performances this season.

However, the numbers suggest that Johnstone has been far from convincing in between the sticks for Palace.

The 30-year-old is sidelined with a calf problem at the moment and Dean Henderson has taken his place in goal.

With Johnstone unavailable, his understudy has a great chance of keeping his spot in the starting eleven if he does well.

3) Mark Flekken (Brentford) – 62.2%

It’s fair to say that Brentford have not been able to replace David Raya with a keeper of the same quality.

Flekken arrived from Freiburg in the summer with a decent reputation but he has conceded 29 goals and kept just 3 clean sheets in the league.

It has coincided with Brentford struggling to replicate their performances from their last two seasons in the top flight.

The Bees are actually in danger of being sucked into a relegation battle. They are currently just 4 points off the bottom three.

2) Jason Steele (Brighton) – 61.9%

The 33-year-old was included in our list back in early October and he remains one of the league’s poorest-performing shot-stoppers.

Steele is very handy with the ball at his feet and that is why manager Roberto De Zerbi has continued to play him in certain matches.

The Brighton boss has been rotating his keepers this campaign, with Bart Verbruggen having been given a similar number of starts.

Keepers rarely thrive when asked to share duties, though, and Steele is not really benefiting from De Zerbi’s rotation policy.

1) David Raya (Arsenal) – 61.5%

Aaron Ramsdale topped our list in October and his rival for Arsenal’s No.1 spot has now taken his mantle as the worst-performing Premier League goalkeeper.

Raya had the highest save % in the league last season (77.7%) so his poor performances are likely down to the pressure of playing for a more high-profile team.

It can’t help that Ramsdale is sitting on the bench either, as Raya knows his displays are under very close scrutiny.

Manager Mikel Arteta is expected to keep faith with the 28-year-old, though, having backed the move to sign him in the summer.
