West Ham vs Huddersfield: Match Preview and Predictions

West Ham United host Huddersfield on Monday in search of their first points this season. The Hammers have had a dreadful start to proceedings so far, and sit bottom of the Premier League table with three games played.

Huddersfield’s fortunes are much the opposite, with David Wagner’s men sitting joint second in the table after 2 wins and a draw. The newly promoted side are in dreamland at the moment, but with West Ham in dire need of a win in order to relieve pressure on manager Slavan Bilic, perhaps they can end Huddersfield’s party.

The game will take place at the Olympic Stadium, West Ham’s new home for the time being. It has been a tough transition from Upton Park so far for the Hammers, but the new season promises so much potential, especially with the experienced players they have signed this summer.

Andy Carroll could be fit for the game after missing the start of the Premier League season with a thigh injury. Winston Reid is also expected to have recovered from the calf muscle injury he sustained earlier in the season, which kept him out of the 3-0 defeat at Newcastle. New signing Marko Arnautovic is still banned for the game, whilst Huddersfield have no new injury concerns.

This will be the first league meeting between the teams since March 1972, a game West Ham won 3-0 at Upton Park. Huddersfield haven’t won back to back away matches in the top-flight since their final two away games of the 1955/56 campaign, so West Ham might fancy their chances if history is anything to go by.

There is a worrying stat for West Ham fans though, as this is only the second Premier League season that West Ham United have started with three defeats. The other, in the 2010/11 season, they finished bottom of the league. What’s more, three of the last four teams to have lost their opening four Premier League games of the season have ended that campaign bottom of the league.

Monday night football will certainly provide good viewing, can Huddersfield continue their brilliant form? Or will West Ham put their poor start behind them?
