West Ham United vs Watford: Latest Injury News

West Ham need to bounce back and put more than a game’s worth of points between them and the relegation zone. Even though the last 5 fixtures did not do much for Moyes’ side, hopes are high especially as one of the Hammers’ key players is set to return.

Watford will be tough to beat especially with their morale surely being at an all time high after the 4-1 win against Chelsea as new boss Javi Gracia took charge for his first match. Even so, West Ham should also be aware that the Blues conceded after Bakayoko was sent off and an weak-looking penalty was given for the Hornets. The 3 goal difference could work in the Hammers’ favor as Watford could come in overconfident and lose focus.

Injury wise both teams have to deal with similar problems. West Ham are in a slight disadvantage as they did not do much in the transfer window and their absence list includes only key players:

Andy Carroll – Fractured Foot – Out since the beginning of January, Carroll is a players you always want to have available. Unfortunately, his return date is set for late April, early May. There is a slight chance he will miss the rest of the season which would be a massive blow for West Ham.

Manuel Lanzini – Hamstring Injury – Probably one of this season’s most influential players, Lanzini has to deal with one of the most complicated injuries in football. His return date is set for the first half of March. Such an injury needs to be handled properly though so that return date my be delayed.

Pedro Obiang – Knee Ligament Injury – One of the biggest losses of the season. The midfielder, who was a team regular until a couple of days back, is likely to miss the rest of the season as well.

Edmilson Fernandes – Ankle Injury – Out since December with no return date set. Just as Obiang and Lanzini, he started off as a team regular but is now in the recovery for an undetermined amount of time.

Marko Arnautovic – Hamstring Injury – Not as bad as first thought. He is expected to return against Watford. The Austrian international is not sure of getting a spot in the first team but is likely to make an appearance this weekend.

Watford have to deal with 8 injured only one of whom will be available for the game against the Hammers:

Miguel Britos – Foot Injury – expected to return at the end of the month around the 24th.

Tommie Hoban – Knee Ligament Injury – out since July 2017, is likely to take at least a few more months to be fully fit.

Nathaniel Chalobah – Knee Injury – out since September. He underwent surgery and is expected to be fit by the end of this month.

Molla Wague – Hamstring Injury – recently picked up. There’s no news regarding the extension of his injury. He is unlikely to be featured against West Ham.

Christian Kabasele – Hamstring Injury – it is unlikely to see him play on the 10th as this injury was reported a couple of days ago.

Kiko Femenia – Hamstring Injury – picked up in early December. No return date set for him as again, hamstring injuries are a pain to diagnose and fix.

Will Hughes – Hamstring Injury – out since November. If everything goes well, he will be back at the end of this month.

Craig Cathcart – Knee Injury – out since August. Even though he has his return date set for the 10th, it’s hard to believe he will be featured in such an important game.

Things seem pretty even between West Ham and Watford and it is hard to tell who will go in as favorites. The Hammers are definitely going to have to work harder as they are playing without some of their best players. Taking advantage of Watford’s confidence after the Chelsea win might give them the extra edge they need to win this.
