West Ham United face a major challenge as they take on Nottingham Forest at the weekend, with David Moyes’ position potentially hanging in the balance.
A defeat could see the experienced Scot sacked – however, West Ham will do everything in their power to secure a win in this crucial relegation battle.
The Irons are set to be without flying winger Maxwel Cornet for the game against Forest, as he continues to recover from his long term injury – the Ivorian is expected to be back in action towards the beginning of March.
Additionally, Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paquetá and Kurt Zouma are all doubts. Paqueta and Zouma are both unlikely to play as they continue recovering from minor respective injuries, while Bowen picked up a knock against Spurs. He wasn’t substituted, but the 26-year-old was in visible discomfort.
Moyes was unhappy with the challenge that caused the injury, saying: “This was a whack around the shins to me. I was a long way away, so I might be wrong but my first thought, and I’ve not had a chance to see it again, my first thought was it was a pretty clear booking and what it led to was because I don’t think the referee got that decision right.”
The exact condition of Bowen is still unclear, but his creative influence would be sorely missed if he is unavailable to play against Forest on Saturday.
In their last game, West Ham were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur in a weak display from the Hammers. Emerson Royal and Son Heung-min got themselves on the scoresheet for Spurs as the game ended 2-0 – West Ham could only muster a single shot on target on response.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest picked up vital point as they drew with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. It was a battling display by Forest, who were unwilling to bow down to their intimidating opposition – in the end, their bravery was rewarded. West Ham will need to keep their heads up if they’re to match Forest’s fighting spirit.
