West Ham Dealt Transfer Blow After £24M La Liga Star Prioritises Move To Rival Club

West Ham are not favourites to sign Valencia midfielder Yunus Musah, according to Tuttosport (via TMW).

The Italian newspaper claims that the Hammers and Fulham have both been pushing to snap up the American international but the player prefers a move to AC Milan.

Valencia are, however, holding out for a fee in the region of €25m (£21m) to €28m (£24m) for Musah, and Milan haven’t agreed to match the 20-year-old’s valuation so far, despite getting the approval of the player.

It is believed that the Rossoneri are currently focused on getting a deal in place for AZ Alkmaar’s Tijjani Reijnders before turning their attention to Musah.

A number of other Premier League teams have also looked at Musah

In addition to West Ham and Fulham, journalist Fabrizio Romano has mentioned that Chelsea and Arsenal have been scouting the American in recent months.

However, unless one of those clubs enters the race for the midfielder in the coming days, it seems it will be a three-way fight for Musah’s services.

If West Ham do fail to land Musah, they have plenty of other options

As well as Musah, Irons boss David Moyes appears to be looking at a number of other midfielders, including Juventus’s Denis Zakaria, Fulham’s Joao Palhinha, Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse, Bologna’s Jerdy Schouten, Ajax’s Edson Alvarez, Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips and Everton’s Amadou Onana

It’s a sizeable list of targets, although it is thought that West Ham may only sign two of these players. From the sound of things, a move for Zakaria is the most advanced, with negotiations believed to be taking place about a potential loan with an option to buy. Deals for Palhinha, Ward-Prowse and Onana may prove to be too expensive but an approach for Alvarez remains a possibility after the Mexican’s switch to Borussia Dortmund broke down over personal terms.
