West Ham are preparing an offer for Valencia midfielder Yunus Musah, according to multiple reports in the Spanish media.

The American international is expected to leave the Mestalla this summer, with his club having slapped a €25m (£21.4m) price tag on the player,

It is believed that the Hammers won’t be looking to match Valencia’s valuation of Musah, but they could table a bid in the region of €20m (£17m).

The 20-year-old has been linked with a switch to the London Stadium previously, although the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have been mentioned as potential suitors too.

Musah grew up in the UK

Despite being born in New York and having Ghanaian parentage, the midfielder spent most of his early life on British shores.

Musah started out at Arsenal’s academy in 2012, making his way up through the youth ranks, before leaving Hale End for Spain in 2019.

The move paid off as he made his senior debut for Valencia in September 2020, playing in the 4-2 home win against Levante.

With West Ham’s captain closing in on a move to Arsenal, it looks as if West Ham are already planning where to spend the proceeds from his sale.

Musah seems to be one of the targets, but the Irons have also been linked with the likes of Ajax’s Edson Alvarez, Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse and Fulham’s Joao Palhinha in recent days.

It is not known where Musah fits in terms of the transfer priorities, along with those other players. The fact that he could be a relatively inexpensive purchase suggests he would be a likelier signing than either Ward-Prowse or Palhinha.

Based on claims in the Spanish press, it appears that West Ham will step up their interest with a formal bid for Musah in the not-too-distant future.
