REPORT: West Ham Battling For 21-Goal Striker Regarding Potential Transfer

West Ham United are believed to be interested in a move for Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The Sky Blues have the Swedish international rated at £25 million – as things stand, no club has met this asking price, but interest in the player is thought to be high regardless.

A powerful, domineering forward with deceptively intricate technical ability, Gyokeres scored 21 goals in the Championship last season. His efforts played a major role in Coventry’s impressive league campaign that saw them reach the playoff final, only to be beaten on penalties by Luton Town.

Who else, besides West Ham United, are interested in a move for Viktor Gyokeres?

West Ham are far from the only club who have registered an interest in the Swedish goal machine. Brentford, Fulham, Wolverhampton Wanderers and most recently, newly-promoted Burnley [via TEAMTalk] are all thought to be linked with a move for Gyokeres in the ongoing summer transfer window.

All of these clubs will present tempting options for the 25-year-old – but West Ham have a distinct advantage over the other four. Next season, the Hammers will be partaking in European football in the Europa League – something that the rest of the pack cannot boast.

As such, West Ham could lead the pack by a considerable distance in the race to acquire Gyokeres’ signature – but they will have to act fast, given the level of interest in the player.

Viktor Gyokeres football career summary so far

Born in 1998, Gyokeres joined his first youth academy, IFK Aspudden-Tellus, when he was 12 years of age. In 2014, he made the jump to IF Brommapojkarna, signing his first professional deal with the club a year later.

He would spend another two years in his native country, scoring 20 goals in 56 appearances, before he was headhunted by Brighton and Hove Albion. However, he never made a senior appearance for the Seagulls, spending his time at the club out on loan.

He enjoyed loan spells at St. Pauli and Swansea City, before making the jump to Coventry in 2021 for an undisclosed fee – but what will his next club be?
