West Ham reveal private emails sent to Sporting

West Ham United have revealed emails sent to Sporting Lisbon that show the Hammers’ failed offer for William Carvalho.

Sky Sports News revealed the content of the emails, which confirmed they offered £22.85m for Carvalho, plus add-ons. The Hammers wanted to pay three instalments for the player over 24 months and add a 10 per cent sell-on clause. The deal also included a proposed add on clause for if West Ham qualified for the Champions League.

The email read:
“Subject to contract, medical and agreeing personal terms with the player.

“This is to confirm that WHU FC will pay 25m Euros payable in 3 instalments over 24 months (8.333m Euros now, August 2018 and August 2019)10 per cent sell on.

“Add ons to be agreed (eg WHU qualify for Champions League and player making 85 per cent of starts in season achieved.) These can’t just be games as he will be our record signing and we expect him to play the games.

“We wish to conclude this asap or we’ll be borrowing a player from PSG.”

It seems like this story will continue to rumble on for some time, as Sporting insist no offer was made whereas West Ham are doing all they can to prove that they did.

There has been various verbal exchanges between the two clubs, the latest from Portugal coming from Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho, who called ‘Mr Sullivan and his brother’ “the dildo brothers.”

After transfer deadline day, Sullivan said last week: “It is no secret that we made a club record bid for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho but unfortunately that offer was rejected a couple of weeks ago.”

“Late last night Sporting Lisbon made contact to accept the original offer but unfortunately it was too late in the day, and we simply did not have enough time to put the player through a medical.”

“We were not prepared, as a club, to buy a player for that amount of money without him having gone through adequate medical checks.”
