West Ham ready to splash £30 million on Chelsea castaway

West Ham are ready to offer Chelsea £30 million for midfielder Danny Drinkwater, according to reports from The Sun.

The Blues are looking to offload the Englishman following a disappointing first season at Stamford Bridge, in which he failed to establish himself as a regular in Antonio Conte’s side.

Drinkwater joined Chelsea from Leicester for £35 million last summer, with he hope being he would be able to rekindle his title winning midfield partnership with N’Golo Kante, who also joined the Blues from Leicester a year previously.

However the 28-year-old has been limited to only five Premier League starts, with manager Antonio Conte preferring both Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas in the middle of the park – and he will now be allowed to leave the club in search of more regular football.

And amongst his potential suitors are West Ham, who are keen to add quality to their midfield after yet another season spent battling relegation.

The Hammers are currently 15th in the table but not yet safe from the drop with only three games to play.

And should they remain in the top flight, Drinkwater is thought to be one of the club’s top priority targets, with manager David Moyes eager to add the technically gifted midfielder to his squad.

Any move for the former Leicester City star however is expected to cost the Hammers in the region of £30 million, with Chelsea wanting to recoup almost all of the money spent on him last summer to fund their own summer transfer plans.
