West Ham provide William Carvalho transfer update

West Ham United vice-president Karen Brady has given an update on the transfer negotiations for midfielder William Carvalho. The Portuguese midfielder has been linked with a move to the Hammers this summer from Sporting Lisbon, but agreeing a fee seems to be the biggest stumbling block with West Ham offering £25m and Sporting wanting £40m.

However, vice-president Brady has provided fans with some encouragement over the transfer, saying that hard work is still being done behind the scenes to bring him to the club.

The Hammers were recently believed to be frustrated at the lack of progress thanks to Sporting Lisbon’s high fee demands, and it was reported that the London side were set to end their interest in the Portuguese in order to target alternative midfielders.

However, speaking on new Sky Sports show “The Debate” – West Ham’s vice-president Karen Brady reassured fans that work was being done to sign the midfielder, despite the difficult processes that transfers require.

“Well, my chairman handles all the transfer negotiations and he’s working very closely,” Karen Brady said.

“It’s all very complex signing players. You think you make a decision to buy them but there’s so many various different layers and actually getting it done and doing it in the time-frame that you want isn’t always possible.”

William Carvalho is a player who has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Manchester United in the past. He is a sturdy holding midfielder who would certainly add solidity to the back-line. Should the Hammers sign him, it would make an even bigger statement this summer than the one that has already been made.
