West Ham On Alert As £27m Rated La Liga Stopper Turns Down New Contract

West Ham are one of five clubs who are closely monitoring Athletic Bilbao centre-back Unai Nunez’s contract situation, according to AS.

The Spanish publication claims the 23-year-old has declined to extend his current deal with the La Liga club and, although his contract runs until 2023, he could well be sold this summer.

Nunez does have a €30m (£27m) release clause but Bilbao may have to settle for a fee below that amount considering the current financial climate.

The Hammers will face competition from the likes of Arsenal, Everton, Monaco and AC Milan for the player and it remains to be seen if manager David Moyes would have the funds to sign the defender.

Targets will likely only be decided upon when the season ends due to the threat of relegation, but there is no doubt that West Ham will need to strengthen their centre-back options when the next transfer window opens.
