West Ham Could Miss Out On Italian Manager With PL Rival Now In ‘Pole Position’ After Making ‘Important Offer’

West Ham are not favourites to secure the services of former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, according to TMW.

The Italian website reports that Premier League rivals Newcastle are in “pole position” to make the 65-year-old their head coach for the start of next season.

Sarri has been out of work since leaving Lazio back in March after nearly three years in charge of the Serie A side.

However, TMW claim that the Magpies have made an “important offer” to Sarri, who could potentially replace Eddie Howe in the dugout at St James’ Park.

Sarri is not among the leading contenders to succeed David Moyes

While there have been several reports in Italy linking Sarri with the job at the London Stadium, he is not someone who has even been considered by the bookmakers.

Ex-Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui is currently deemed the favourite, despite also being mentioned as a possible candidate to take over at AC Milan.

Lille’s Paulo Fonseca, Graham Potter, ex-Germany manager Hansi Flick and Middlesbrough coach Michael Carrick are others who have been backed at the bookies.

Who else could be considered by West Ham?

When speaking last week about the club’s search for a new head coach, reliable insider source ExWHUEmployee claimed that Fulham’s Marco Silva, former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper, Wolves’s Gary O’Neil and even Burnley’s Vincent Kompany may also be consulted.

It does appear as if technical director Tim Steidten is casting his net far and wide in the search for the right candidate. A decision on who could replace David Moyes is not expected to be imminent, with West Ham seemingly taking their time between now and the end of the campaign to look at all of their options .

From the sound of things, Sarri won’t be included on any shortlist, especially if Newcastle have already made him an attractive proposal.
