West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell has spent just over 9 years with the Hammers but a parting of ways is expected in January.
The 33-year-old’s contract expires next summer and he is not likely to sign an extension, with there being a feeling that he will be allowed to leave in a cut-price-deal.
After making over 300 appearances in all competitions for West Ham, fans on X have been asked for their opinion on how the fullback’s career at the London Stadium will be remembered:
Cult hero and massively underrated

A great player for the club with a sour ending

I really can’t believe how it unfolded but he’s been a big part for long time and I appreciate that

Best LB weve had in the last 20 years. Reliable, good delivery, never let us down & deserved his England call up when it came.
Shame about how it’s ended. Emerson is a more modern full back option and has deservedly made LB his own now.
Cress is part of the West Ham family tho

Good honest player. Stayed one season too many for me. Should have gone at the end of the previous season .

A great servant to the club. Allowed to be 1st choice LB for too long though. Fabulous deliverer of the ball. A lack of pace prevented operating at elite level.

Cult hero. If he were to retire he’s be a legend IMO. Staple on team sheets for years

Cresswell should be fondly remembered
You don’t play as many games for a club like West Ham without being a good player. The left-back was named Hammer of the Year in 2015 and, while he has had poor seasons, he has certainly been one of the team’s most consistent performers.
Cresswell deserves to be classed as a loyal servant, even though his behaviour in the summer, when he tried to force through a move to Wolves, wasn’t well received.
Injuries have curtailed his playing time during his last season at West Ham
The defender has only played 45 minutes of first-team football due to a hamstring injury so far this campaign. Emerson Palmieri has been excellent in providing cover during his absence.
Cresswell is reportedly closing in on a return to fitness but it remains to be seen how many more games he will play for the Irons between now and the New Year.
