West Ham midfielder leaves for Serie A

West Ham midfielder Edmilson Fernandes has joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan.

Fernandes, 22, joined West Ham from FC Sion in the summer of 2016 and has since made 48 appearances for the Hammers.

However following a busy summer in the transfer window in which West Ham signed two new central midfielders in the form of both Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez, Fernandes will now go to Italy to gather regular game time.

Fiorentina finished eighth in Serie A last season and get their new campaign underway against Sampdoria on Sunday.

West Ham opened their league campaign yesterday afternoon, however were beaten 4-0 at the hands of Liverpool in what was a disappointing first game in charge for new manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Fernandes has been capped four times by Switzerland, however was not included in his country’s squad the World Cup in Russia this summer.

In an statement on the club’s official website, West Ham said they “wish Edimilson all the best for his spell in Italy.”
