West Ham may struggle at the start of the season but will bounce back

West Ham United are preparing for a strange start to the new Premier League season, which will see them face three consecutive trips on the road before welcoming Huddersfield Town to the London Stadium in September.

The World Athletics Championship being held at West Ham’s home means the Hammers will face consecutive away games against Manchester United, Newcastle and Southampton, as well as a League Cup tie with Cheltenham Town, which could cause difficulties for Slaven Bilic’s side.

Those opening three Premier League games on the road will certainly be difficult for the Hammers and it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that the East London giants could return to the London Stadium in September without a win to their name.

That would likely raise the pressure on Slaven Bilic and his squad but fans need to be patient this season, as the Hammers may struggle initially but should bounce back a lot earlier than they did last season.

Their trips on the road are accompanied by the absences of Michail Antonio, Manuel Lanzini, Aaron Cresswell, Cheikhou Kouyate, Diafra Sakho and Andy Caroll, many of whom would have been considered to be starters.

West Ham’s depth is admittedly not as good as it could be but when they have all their key-players back available and return to the London Stadium, the Hammers can start to shine- especially with a run of home matches against Huddersfield, Tottenham and Brighton.

That trio of games, which accompanies trips to West Brom, Burnley and Crystal Palace, is the perfect chance for the Hammers to return to form if things don’t go their way ahead of the first international break and the tie against Tottenham could kick-start their campaign.

Of course though, there is no guarantee that West Ham’s August will be one to forget as Bilic’s side are capable of getting results on the road against the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle and Southampton, all of whom have something to prove this season.

West Ham fans need to prepare themselves for if things don’t go their way though and it could take a while for their new-look side to gel. However, once they’ve got their side ticking properly, they’ll be a real handful in the Premier League this season and stand as a side to watch out for.
