West Ham Make Enquiry For Ex Chelsea Star As They Look To Strengthen Up Front

West Ham have made an enquiry for Hertha Berlin forward Salomon Kalou, according to reports in the German media. The former Chelsea player is available after being deemed surplus to requirements by his club.

The ambitious Bundesliga outfit hired Jurgen Klinsmann earlier this season and have already spent £22.5m on Lyon midfielder Lucas Tousart this month, but they are also closing in on the signing of Krzysztof Piatek from AC Milan for £23.5m and it means Kalou is no longer considered a regular starter.

The Ivorian has carved out quite a career for himself since moving to Germany in 2014. He has scored 53 goals and contributed 16 assists in 178 appearances for Hertha, but his game time this campaign has been restricted under Klinsmann.

Kalou has made just eight appearances in all competitions and wasn’t even in the matchday squad for the last two league matches against Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg.

A return to the Premier League could suit all parties but it remains to be seen whether West Ham will follow up their interest with a bid for the 34-year-old.
