West Ham Lose Out To Fenerbahce In Race For Controversial French World Cup Star

Fenerbahce have won the battle to sign former Marseille defender Adil Rami, according to France Football. The French magazine reports that both West Ham and Crystal Palace were interested in snapping up the 33-year-old on a free transfer.

However, the centre-back is expected in Istanbul for a medical this week ahead of his switch to Turkey. Rami was part of the France squad that won the World Cup in 2018, although he didn’t play a single minute at the tournament.

He has been embroiled in controversy in recent months with Marseille having terminated his contract after it was revealed that he skipped training to take part in the French TV show Fort Boyard.

Considering West Ham’s struggles defensively, after conceding seven goals in their first three games, it isn’t a surprise that they would be looking around for options to strengthen the backline, but Rami would have been a very surprising choice.
