West Ham are one of three teams weighing up a move for Goztepe fullback Lamine Gassama, according to Dakar Privee. The Senegalese website reports that the Hammers, Hoffenheim and Amiens are all keen on the 29-year-old.
The right-back featured prominently as Senegal reached the African Cup of Nations final last month. He started the first two group games on the bench before becoming a regular starter for the rest of the competition.
Gassama has been with Goztepe in Turkey for the last year, having joined them from another Super Lig club Alanyaspor on a free transfer.
The defender was actually born in France and came through Lyon’s youth academy before spending four years at Lorient.
Whether West Ham would actually need a new right-back, it seems questionable. Manager Manuel Pellegrini already has both Ryan Fredericks and Pablo Zabaleta who can play on the right-hand side. Whether the Hammers see Gassama as an upgrade, we shall have to wait and see.
