West Ham Join Battle For Ukrainian Playmaker As He Admits He’d Be Open To Premier League Switch

West Ham are keen on signing Atalanta attacking midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi, according to Sportal. The Italian website claims the Hammers have joined Fiorentina in the race for the Ukrainian international.

The 26-year-old only moved to Italy from Genk for €15m last summer, and he has been in impressive form, scoring five goals and providing three assists in 31 appearances this campaign.

However, Malinovskyi has not been a regular starter for Atalanta, with manager Gian Piero Gasperini having only started him on eight occasions.

The Ukrainian, who has also been linked with Chelsea, has confirmed that he would be interested in moving to the Premier League, although there are no concrete offers on the table:

“I don’t think the clubs worry about transfers now. As for England, I can say that with Atalanta we played some games and we trained and the atmosphere is wonderful.”

“I like the Premier League, but I don’t think it’s worth talking about. There are no preconditions at the moment.”

Whether Irons boss David Moyes would actually need a player like Malinovskyi, it is up for debate. Manuel Lanzini, Felipe Anderson and Pablo Fornals can all play in the no.10 role.

Lanzini’s future has been called into the question, though, and perhaps if the Argentine was sold, the money could be reinvested in another midfielder.
