West Ham Dealt Big Fitness Blow Ahead Of Clash Against Arsenal

West Ham centre-back Nayef Aguerd is “unlikely” to be available for the London derby versus Arsenal, according to the Claret & Hugh.

The insider source claims that the Moroccan international is struggling with a bad case of flu, which forced him to miss the 2-0 win over Manchester United at the weekend.

It was hoped that the 5-day gap between fixtures would be enough time for Aguerd to recover, but he is still said to be under the weather.

There is a possibility that the 27-year-old will decide to fight through the illness and declare himself fit for the clash at the Emirates. However, at the moment, it doesn’t look like manager David Moyes will take a risk on his fitness.

West Ham injury news ahead of the Arsenal game

In addition to Aguerd, Maxwel Cornet has also been struck down with the flu. As the Ivorian winger has only had 1 minute of action in the Premier League so far this season, though, his absence won’t be too much of a concern.

The only other player currently on the treatment table is Michail Antonio. The forward is back out on the grass after over a month out with a knee injury but he is not expected to be in the squad to face the Gunners on Thursday night.

Arsenal injury news

West Ham’s next opponents actually have more injury problems than the Irons. While Mohamed Elneny did return to the substitutes bench for the 1-1 draw against Liverpool on Saturday after recovering from a hamstring issue, four other first-team players remain sidelined.

Thomas Partey had surgery on a thigh injury in November and the Ghanaian international is set to return at the start of next month. Takehiro Tomiyasu (calf) is likely to make his comeback in the same timeframe. Fabio Vieira is still recovering from an operation on his groin, while Jurrien Timber (ACL) is a long-term absentee.
