West Ham have made enquiries for Napoli duo Fabian Ruiz and Piotr Zielinski, according to reports in the Italian media.
Ruiz has less than a year left on his contract with the Serie A club, and he has been mentioned as a target for Arsenal this summer. However, the Spanish international is not believed to be interested in making the switch to the London Stadium.
The Hammers have subsequently moved on to make an approach for Ruiz’s teammate, Zielinski, with an initial offer of €20m (£17m) having been submitted for the Polish international.
The bid is well below Napoli’s valuation, which is reportedly €40m (£34m), and the player himself is also yet to be convinced about the move. Even so, negotiations are believed to be ongoing.
Manager David Moyes has already strengthened his options in midfield after recruiting Flynn Downes from Swansea, but it does appear that he is also keen on recruiting a more senior player, to replace some of the experienced lost following the retirement of Mark Noble. It remains to be seen whether any progress will be made in the deal for Zielinski.
