Atalanta have rejected a €40m (£35m) from West Ham for forward Duvan Zapata, according to reports in Italy.

The Colombian international is currently on loan at the Serie A side from Sampdoria, but they do have the option to purchase the 27-year-old for €14m at any time.

Considering that Zapata would only be available if Atalanta decide to buy the player, it seems they were hoping the Italian club would see the opportunity to make a profit.

The Atalanta star is in red hot form at the moment, scoring four goals in the 5-0 win over Frosinone at the weekend, taking his total for the season up to 17 in all competitions.

Zapata has recently spoken about his admiration for Thierry Henry and that he would love to emulate his hero by playing in the Premier League one day. He did, however, admit he supported Arsenal when he was younger:

“I used to support one team for each league. I liked Inter colours but I was in love with Thierry Henry’s Arsenal. In Colombia, we love Premier League. Who knows. One day I could play there.”

The Colombian may be a player the club are considering as a replacement for Marko Arnautovic. Reports indicate that the Hammers are only willing to let the Austrian leave in the summer following speculation over a move to China.
