West Ham Have £9.6m Offer Rejected For Gonzalo Montiel

West Ham have had a loan bid rejected for River Plate right-back Gonzalo Montiel, according to CNN Deportes (via TNT Sports).

The Hammers were prepared to pay a $600,000 (£460,000) loan fee for the Argentine before triggering a mandatory option to buy in the summer for $12m (£9.16m).

River Plate, however, expect any club to trigger Montiel’s release clause which stands at $25m (£19m). The £10m gap between the two clubs’ valuations means a deal before the January transfer window closes is unlikely.

Irons boss David Moyes currently has just one fit right-back in Pablo Zabaleta, with Ryan Fredericks currently unavailable due to a hamstring injury.

Zabaleta is also expected to leave the London Stadium at the end of the season so a move for another fullback is likely. Montiel has four senior caps for Argentina having made his debut in March last year. He has gone on to play in four friendlies but was not part of the squad that featured in the Copa America last summer.
