West Ham Face Uphill Fight In Battle To Land Aston Villa Playmaker

West Ham are tracking Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn, according to the Daily Mail.

Both the Hammers and Leicester City are believed to be interested in the Scottish international after an excellent first season at Villa Park.

The Villans signed McGinn from Hibernian for just £3m last August, and he went on to be named the club’s player of the season, helping them to promotion through the playoffs.

The 24-year-old scored seven goals and provided ten assists in 44 appearances for the Midlands club, and his performances have attracted the attention of West Ham’ scouts.

A move fo McGinn is probably unlikely, though, with Villa keen to tie down the Scottish midfielder to a new long-term contract.

Dean Smith’s side are not short of cash, having been taken over by two billionaires, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, last summer. It’s likely, therefore, that Villa will turn down any offer for McGinn over the coming weeks.
