West Ham Enter Battle For Ex Newcastle Star As Asking Price Is Cut To £18m

West Ham are one of three clubs who are leading the race for Marseille winger Florian Thauvin, according to reports in the French media.

The former Newcastle player has thrived since returning to France, but his contract situation means Marseille are looking to sell up at the end of the season.

The Ligue One side are struggling to stay within Financial Fairplay rules and have decided to slash Thauvin’s asking price to €20m (£18m) with his contract expiring in 2021. It has led to the likes of the Irons, AC Milan and Sevilla taking a keen interest in the 27-year-old.

One drawback is the fact that Thauvin has had his fair share of injuries this campaign, having played just two games due to an ankle problem.

However, he has been a consistent performer for Marseille over the past few years, having scored an extremely impressive 59 goals since the beginning of the 2016/17 campaign.
