West Ham Defender’s Contract Talks Stall After Club Refuse To Offer £30k A Week

West Ham defender Declan Rice’s contract talks with the club have stalled, according to the Claret & Hugh.

The website reports that the 19-year-old wants a basic wage of £30k a week but the Hammers are only looking to offer £18k a week up front, with a possible rise to £30k based on the number of appearances he makes.

Rice is currently only on £3k a week, and while his contract expires at the end of the season, the club do have the option of extending it for another twelve months.

Still, the contract impasse will concern West Ham fans. Back in June, the Daily Mail reported that the centre-back had been offered a “derisory” wage rise of just £5k to £8k a week.

Claret & Hugh, however, report that the main reason for the delay in negotiations in recent weeks is because Rice is still deciding whether to play for the Republic of Ireland or England.

The defender has asked not to be considered for selection by Ireland and was not included in the squad for the UEFA Nations League match against Wales. Reports do suggest that he will make a statement on his international future sometime next week.
