West Ham defender hoping for happy return to Anfield this weekend

West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell says he is hoping for a happy return to his former club Liverpool when the Hammers travel to Anfield this weekend.

Born in Liverpool, Cresswell spent time with Liverpool as a schoolboy, before moving onto Tranmere Rovers, Ipswich Town and now of course West Ham – whom he joined in the summer of 2014.

In four appearances against the Reds as a West Ham player, the defender has only come out on the losing side one time, and the England international says he aims to keep that impressive form going when his side head to Merseyside on Saturday afternoon.

West Ham need a good performance and to get something from the game given their recent form and the crazy fight for survival they are involved in. You can get great odds on the teams involved in this season’s top flight relegation battle at @online-betting.org with a total of 10 clubs still fighting to maintain their Premier League status.

So many teams are involved this season with only 10 points separating Watford in 11th and West Brom in 20th. West Ham sit in 12th on 30 points but are only 4 points clear of Southampton in 17th position.

With the future of David Moyes up in the air, mainly because of the 6 month deal he signed when he took over at the London Stadium from Slaven Bilic but also because West Ham’s owners have not come out and said Moyes is doing well, the uncertainty of the club’s Premier League future continues to be a big worry.

Aaron Cresswell knows how tough it is going to be at Anfield to handle Jurgen Klopp’s in-form Liverpool side but he seems focused on the job in hand.

“I was back in Liverpool at the weekend, taking my four-week-old Sonny to see his family for the first time and spend a few days with them, which was nice, but this time around it will be all business,” said the No 3 on West Ham’s Official website.

“It’s a huge game every season, not just for me because I come from Liverpool and used to play for them as a kid.

“It’s going to be tough. They’re doing so well this season, especially with the front players they’ve got, so we’re going to have to be at our best and hopefully we’ll get something out of the game.”

Cresswell has been called up to the England squad on a number of occasions over the past few seasons, earning three caps for the Three Lions.

However, after suffering a number of injury problems since the start of the season, Cresswell says he would be lucky to make the squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia – and instead remains focused on life at the London Stadium.

“I know the situation and how tough it’s going to be to make that World Cup squad. As long as I do my best for West Ham, whatever happens, happens.” he said.

“My main focus at the minute is West Ham and keeping us in the Premier League.”
