West Ham Dealt Major Injury Setback Ahead Of Chelsea Clash

West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer is a doubt for Saturday’s game against Chelsea, according to reports.

The German international was replaced at half-time in the 1-1 draw against Newcastle on Saturday evening, with Ben Johnson coming on after the interval at St James’ Park.

No information on Kehrer’s condition was given at the time but it has since emerged that he felt some tightness in one of his hamstrings.

The medical staff, therefore, decided to take him off as a precaution, and the centre-back’s fitness is expected to be assessed ahead of the London derby this weekend.

With a hamstring strain, rest is usually recommended due to the risks of playing on and tearing the muscle. It would, therefore, be a surprise if Kehrer is in the starting eleven to face Chelsea.

Hammers boss David Moyes is already short of options at the back, with Kurt Zouma still sidelined with a thigh injury.
