West Ham could be set to offload another of their transfer flops

West Ham’s quiet summer may be frustrating for fans who want big names to arrive and bolster the side but it’s clear it’s a much better approach from the Hammers compared to the array of activity completed last summer.

12 months ago, West Ham were incredibly active in the transfer market as they looked to assemble a side capable of competing within the Europa League- only to be knocked out early in qualifying, leaving them with an incredibly large squad ahead of the Premier League campaign.

From those signed last summer, Havard Nordtveit, Alvaro Arbeloa, Simone Zaza, Gokhan Tore and Jonathan Calleri have all left, following a maiden campaign with the Hammers were they failed to impress and earn themselves a future at the London Stadium.

It seems that the mass exodus of summer flops 12 months on is not yet complete though as reports suggest Ashley Fletcher could be on the move, with Watford and Burnley considering a move as the Hammers are prepared to sell for around £6m.

Arriving on a free transfer from Manchester United last summer, though West Ham were forced to pay £1m in compensation, Fletcher made 16 Premier League last season but only two of those came as a starter.

He failed to impress enough to lead the line in a campaign where West Ham were crying out for a reliable striker and the array of links suggesting that West Ham are eyeing significant forward recruits this summer, with David Gold confirming they’re looking to sign two strikers, means Fletcher may be surplus to requirements.

Fortunately, a deal of £6m would be a decent piece of business for West Ham as it would give them a £5m profit just 12 months after he signed- although there is the danger the England U20 international could excel when given more regular chances, leading West Ham to regret a deal.

At this stage though, it’s clear Fletcher isn’t up to standard for the Hammers and an exit seems to be the right scenario for all parties- although it depends on whether West Ham can complete the sort of signings they’re chasing in attacking areas.

The latest reports indicate Slaven Bilic is looking to tie-up a deal for Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez, whilst the Hammers are also said to be keeping tabs on the likes of Olivier Giroud, Kelechi Iheanacho and Michy Batshuayi.
