West Ham Closing In On Summer Signing Of Chilean Midfield Enforcer

West Ham will sign Gary Medel from Besiktas in the summer, according to reports in Turkey.

Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that he tried to sign his fellow countryman in the January transfer window and it seems that he could finally secure a deal for the Chilean at the end of the season.

Besiktas are currently in financial difficulties and are keen to offload some of their highest earners. Medel joined the Turkish club from Inter Milan in August 2017 on a contract that expires in 2020.

It appears they will look to cut his time short in Istanbul with the Hammers his likely destination if the reports turn out to be accurate.

Medel is still a first-team player at Besiktas, having made 31 appearances in all competitions this season. Although he has played at centre-back, most of the matches have been as a holding midfield player.

Nicknamed “the Pitbull,” the 31-year-old does have disciplinary issues, having picked up 10 yellow cards and one red card so far this campaign.
