West Ham can finish in the top 10: This is how

West Ham had a strange season, they started off poorly then the Dimitri Payet saga masked over their season until the Frenchman forced his way out of the east London based club. A strong finish saw the hammers finish a surprising 11th place, surprising because of how bad they were at the beginning of the season in comparison to their 2015/16 form which saw them qualify for the Europa league.

Slaven Billic has now been at the club for over two years and the continuity of having the same manager can only help attract players and get players who want to play for the manager as repayment for the faith shown by the Croatian manager.

Here is how West Ham could finish in the top 10 and possibly sneak a Europa League spot again.

New signings

West Ham have been linked to many players, names such as Daniel Sturridge and Olivier Giroud of Arsenal being the most glamourous. If West Ham can start signing players of Giroud’s calibre then the hammers will have a very good chance of finishing in a high position. The claret and blues may have to rely on other teams winning the cup competitions so they can get a Europa League spot which is rather likely as West Ham haven’t won a major cup competition since 1980, which was the FA Cup.

A settled environment

West Ham are about to enter their second full season in their new London Stadium after moving from the old Boleyn ground. West Ham’s first season there was one to forget for sure as they struggled to make the place a fortress, unlike their old home. This season sees them settled in their new environment and this could help them turn their home stadium into a difficult place to go for opponents and picking up important points at home could help the hammers achieve an important 10th place finish and possibly a cup run.

Slaven Billic

Slaven Billic has spent two years with the hammers and by modern standards, that is very good. It creates a stable environment for players and staff as they know who is going to be in charge when they sign their contracts. He now knows the ins and outs of the club which gives him an upper hand over clubs that chop and change managers every season. The continuity is new to West Ham as they are used to changing their manager, a solid seventh and 11th place finish so far under the Billic era is a great achievement.
