West Ham Are One Of 2 Clubs Expressing ‘Interest’ In Relegated Premier League Defender

Salisu

West Ham and Brighton are both showing “interest” in Southampton centre-back Mohammed Salisu, according to SportsWorldGhana.com.

The website claims both Premier League teams are weighing up bids for the 24-year-old, who has recently been relegated with the Saints.

Salisu has only played one match since February due to a pelvic bone injury but he was a regular starter earlier on in the season, making 28 appearances in all competitions.

SportsWorldGhana claim the likes of Manchester United, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace have considered making bids for the defender previously but it appears the Hammers will only have one major rival for the player this summer.

Why are West Ham keen on signing Salisu?

Manager David Moyes is short of options at centre-half. Craig Dawson left for Wolves in January, while Angelo Ogbonna is out of contract at the end of the season.

If the Italian does also depart, it would leave Moyes with just Nayef Aguerd, Kurt Zouma and Thilo Kehrer in the centre of defence. Bringing in Salisu to strengthen numbers would, therefore, make a lot of sense.
