West Ham Among Three Teams In Race To Sign Republic Of Ireland Star

West Ham are considering a move for Everton midfielder James McCarthy this month, according to reports in the UK.

The Hammers are said to be keen to bring in the Republic of Ireland international on loan as they look to strengthen their options in the middle of the park.

Premier League side Fulham and Championship promotion chasers West Brom are also believed to be looking at McCarthy.

The 28-year-old has returned to fitness after a year out with a broken leg, but he is unlikely to get game time under Toffees boss Marco Silva.

A loan move would certainly suit Everton so McCarthy can build up his match sharpness, but whether it would be a good idea for West Ham to sign another player with a poor injury record, it is open for debate.

Jack Wilshere has hardly played since joining from Arsenal in the summer due to an ankle injury while manager Manuel Pellegrini also has nine other players who are currently unavailable for first-team duties.
