West Ham Among Eight Clubs Eyeing Deal For 20M Rated Ukrainian Stopper

West Ham are one of eight teams who have been keeping tabs on Shakhtar Donetsk centre-back Mykola Matviyenko, according to 90min.com.

The website is not the most reliable when it comes to transfer stories and, considering they say the Ukrainian international could cost £20m, the defender is likely to be out of the Hammers’ price range.

With Everton, Wolves, Leeds, Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Monaco and Napoli also reportedly interested in Matviyenko, manager David Moyes would also have a lot of persuading to do in order to convince the player to make the switch to the London Stadium.

The Irons will have some money in the transfer kitty following the departures of Jordan Hugill and Albian Ajeti but it’s unlikely to be enough to agree a fee with Shakhtar for the centre-half.

Matviyenko has also been on Arsenal and Manchester City’s radar and, while he is no doubt a talented defender, it’s fair to say West Ham will be looking at players who are substantially cheaper.
