West Ham are interested in signing Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, according to reports in the Turkish media. Sporting director Mario Husillos and goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero have both reportedly given their approval to the transfer.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with Liverpool in recent months but the Hammers are said to be ready to make a move for the Turkish international when the window reopens in January.

With Roberto likely to be sold off after a disastrous spell deputising for Lukasz Fabianski, it appears Cakir is being eyed as a potential replacement.

The Turkish star is believed to be valued at €20m (£17m) by his club so that may prove a stumbling block, considering Fabianski will likely be back from a hip injury in the New Year.

It will be up to the Irons to decide whether they see Cakir as having the potential to eventually become Fabianski’s long term successor. The shot-stopper has made 19 appearances for Trabzonspor this season, conceding 25 goals and keeping just one clean sheet.
