‘We Will See’ West Ham Transfer Target Issues Update On Contract Status

West Ham United transfer target Alex Grimaldo has issued an update regarding his future, as covered on Twitter by journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Grimaldo is still unsure where his future lies. He has yet to be offered a new contract by his current club, Benfica – his existing deal is set to expire in the summer, with several clubs (including West Ham) thought to be interested in snapping up the 27-year-old on a free transfer.

In Romano’s tweet, Grimaldo is quoted as saying: “I still don’t know my future step, whether I’m gonna stay at Benfica or leave on free transfer. I’m focused on the league then we will see.”

With this being said, the Hammers are not the only club who are believed to be interested in acquiring Grimaldo’s services. Arsenal and Barcelona are also thought to be in the hunt for the Spanish defender – it’s entirely possible he may favour a club from his native country.

Nevertheless, if West Ham can get their hands on Grimaldo, he could prove to be a brilliant signing. The Irons have struggled at left-back this season – Emerson has largely underwhelmed, while Aaron Cresswell has struggled with injuries. Signing a solid addition in that position would be a very smart move for the Hammers to make.
