“We Understand…” Journalist Reveals Club Had NINE Figure Offer Rejected By West Ham

West Ham did reject a £100m bid from Manchester United for West Ham captain Rice last summer, according to talkSPORT‘s Jim White.

The former Sky Sports presenter claimed the Hammers refused to sell their talisman at the start of the season and they will hold out for a bigger fee if teams come calling in a future transfer window:

“We understand that Manchester United last summer bid £100m and didn’t get him. Chelsea, Arsenal and United are still in the frame. That’s what it would take £120m, plus add-ons.”

£120m seems like a good figure, considering that Rice will still effectively have two years left on his contract in June.

When you take into account the market too, with Enzo Fernandez moving to Chelsea for £107m last month, it seems reasonable for the Hammers to demand a similar fee for their best player.

There had been suggestions by other journalists that the London club may accept bids as low as £75m to £85m but, if White’s information is accurate, it appears they have already rejected offers that are much higher than that.
