“We Bid For Him…” Moyes Reveals West Ham Did Make Offer For Liverpool And Chelsea Linked Midfielder

West Ham manager David Moyes has confirmed that the club did make an offer for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes.

However, despite making a formal approach for the Portuguese international, Moyes says that the player wasn’t keen on making the switch to the London Stadium:

“We bid for him but the boy chose not to come. We are trying to add players that can make us competitive and try and put us near the top of the league. We want good quality players.”

Reports in Portugal yesterday suggested that the Hammers had tabled a €30m (£25m) bid, plus another €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons, but it seems their efforts to sign Nunes were in vain.

The 23-year-old has also been heavily linked with Wolves over the past few months but it has been claimed that he is holding out for a club playing in the Champions League.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been credited with an interest in Nunes, but, unlike West Ham, they have not decided to go ahead and make an official offer.

Signing a midfielder is a top priority for the Irons. They have, though, been frustrated in their efforts to secure a top-quality player, with unsuccessful attempts having been made for the likes of Amadou Onana, Piotr Zielinski and Conor Gallagher.
