West Ham fans were not surprised to see Andy Carroll let go on a free transfer last month. Particularly after his injury problems, it was always unlikely that he would be given a new deal.

The ex-Hammer is now being linked with his boyhood club Newcastle and it does appear a sensible move considering the Magpies’ lack of striking options.

This Magpies fan thinks there are a few reasons why Carroll should be welcomed back to Tyneside:

As the Playmaker FC pundit mentions, they have lost former West Ham target Salomon Rondon to China, Ayoze Perez has moved to Leicester, while Joselu has left to go back to Spain.

If he can stay fit, he could prove a useful impact substitute as he did on a number of occasions for the Irons over the years.

It would be nice to see Carroll stay injury-free and play for the club he grew up supporting, but let’s hope he doesn’t come back to haunt West Ham if he does move back to St James’ Park!
