Two Pros And Two Cons To West Ham Selling Felipe Anderson As Napoli Rumours Surface

West Ham midfielder Felipe Anderson has had a disappointing second season at the club. After a promising first campaign following his £36m move from Lazio, he has struggled to recapture his form.

Reports have begun circling that Napoli are considering whether to bring the Brazilian back to Italy in the summer, although no formal approach has been made yet.

Anderson has been in and out of the team since David Moyes’ arrival as manager with both fitness and form playing a big part in his lack of minutes. The winger is, therefore, not a vital first-team player at the moment.

Press the “next page” as we go through the pros and cons of the Hammers offloading the 26-year-old.

PRO – The money could be reinvested in the squad

Although the Irons may not recoup the money they paid for Anderson two years ago, his sale would still bring in a fair amount of revenue.

With West Ham’s transfer budget reported to be only £40m, the sale of the Brazilian would certainly give David Moyes more to spend in the summer.

CON – Anderson’s talent and creativity will not be replaced

The 26-year-old has undoubted talent, and that ability to unlock a defence with a superb pass will be sorely missed. Moyes may not look for a like for like replacement and seek to sign players in other areas of the pitch.

Considering Jarrod Bowen was signed in January, and Robert Snodgrass continues to play regularly, there is no guarantee that Anderson will be replaced.

PRO – The Brazilian’s sale could mean Rice stays

The financial pressures that all clubs are currently under during the global health crisis means it is a possibility that West Ham could look to offload top stars to balance the books.

Moyes has hinted previously that Declan Rice could be sold in order to free up funds, and if Anderson’s sale prevents the 21-year-old from leaving, supporters may be more open to the Brazilian’s departure.

CON – Anderson could rediscover his form if he stays

One goal and five assists in 24 appearances this season is a pretty poor return from Anderson, but he has been playing in a struggling team.

If West Ham stay up and improve under Moyes, there is every chance that we could see the levels of performances we saw during his first season at the London Stadium.
